The Club has recently put together a 5 year plan for development of players and coaches. This began last year with the appointment of a Rugby Development Officer Dale McLeod. The Club recognises that it is vital to have the right systems and processes for the development of coaches and players.
From the 5 year plan a group of talented boys were given the opportunity to join the Sydenham academy to develop their skills as a rugby player.
This year the group has expanded to encompass 20 players all under the age of 21. The programme begins in November and finishes in August, it consists of technical and physical trainings in which the RDO, Dale sets individual plans and progress reports on all the players. Advanced skill base session are also facilitated by outside resources coaches from the CRFU and NZRFU.
Our goal for the Academy is to produce all round players who in the future will become competitive division 1 players, who will then hopefully progress into the Canterbury selections.
